What does YG8 mean?

YG8 means there is 8% cobalt powder added to the tungsten carbide powder.

Properties of YG8 tungsten carbide buttons

The grade YG8 is widely used in manufacturing tungsten carbide products, not only tungsten carbide buttons but also tungsten carbide rods and other tungsten carbide products. YG8 tungsten carbide buttons have high hardness, and strength and can serve for a long time. And they are resistant to wear and corrosion. The density of YG8 tungsten carbide buttons is 14.8 g/cm3, and the transverse rupture strength is around 2200 MPa. And the hardness of YG8 tungsten carbide buttons is around 89.5 HRA.

Manufacturing of YG8 tungsten carbide buttons

When we are manufacturing YG8 tungsten carbide buttons, we also keep the following process: 

Prepare the raw material→→mix the tungsten carbide powder and cobalt powder→→wet mill in the ball milling machine→→spray dry→→compact into different size→→sinter in the sintering furnace→→final quality check→→pack carefully

But there are some differences in the number of raw materials and the compacting size. When workers mix the tungsten carbide powder and cobalt powder, they will add 8% cobalt powder to the tungsten carbide powder. And during compacting the tungsten carbide buttons, the compacted tungsten carbide buttons should be larger than the final tungsten carbide buttons. So the size of compacted should be determined by the shrinkage coefficiency of YG8, which is around 1.17-1.26.

Application of YG8 tungsten carbide buttons

YG8 tungsten carbide buttons are used to cut soft and medium rock layers. They are also applied for core drills, electric coal drill bits, oil tooth wheel bits, scraper ball tooth bits, coring crown bits,  coal cutting picks, oil cone bits, and scraping knife bits. And YG8 tungsten carbide buttons can also be seen in geological prospecting, coal mining, and oil well boring.
